What is Increased Urinary Frequency?
Increased frequency of urination is a condition that refers to the need to urinate more often than usual. It's a common problem that can occur due to various factors, including medical procedures or conditions that affect bladder function. Understanding the underlying cause is important in managing and addressing increased urinary frequency effectively.

What causes Increased Urinary Frequency?
Increased frequency of urination can have various causes, and understanding them can help in managing and addressing the issue effectively:
Post-Surgical Effects: After gynaecological surgery, such as a hysterectomy or bladder repair, changes in pelvic anatomy or temporary irritation of the bladder can lead to increased urination.
Bladder Irritation: Surgery or medical conditions affecting the pelvic organs can irritate the bladder, causing it to feel fuller more frequently.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Infections in the urinary tract, including the bladder, can cause symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and discomfort.
Bladder Overactivity: Surgical procedures or conditions that affect nerve function or bladder control can result in an overactive bladder, causing frequent urges to urinate.
Medications: Certain medications prescribed after surgery or for other medical conditions can increase urine production or irritate the bladder, leading to more frequent urination.
Fluid Intake: Changes in fluid intake patterns, including increased hydration or specific dietary choices, can affect urinary frequency.
Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM): declining oestrogen levels during Perimenopause and menopause can cause urinary frequency.

How do you experience Increased Urinary Frequency?
When experiencing increased frequency of urination, you may notice several changes in your urinary habits. You might find yourself needing to urinate more frequently than usual, even if each trip to the bathroom doesn't result in passing a large amount of urine.
Throughout the night, you may wake up multiple times to use the bathroom, a condition known as nocturia. Additionally, you may feel a sudden and strong urge to urinate, needing to go urgently.
If you have a urinary tract infection, urinating might be uncomfortable or even painful. Some individuals also report a sensation of incomplete emptying after urinating.
These symptoms can vary in intensity and frequency from person to person, but they often indicate that your bladder may require additional attention.
